Hairstyling at Sturgeon Heights
Over 50 Years of Post Secondary Education in The St. James Community. We are fortunate to have the Hairstyling Program here since 1971.
Students can graduate from the hairstyling program with the 1400 hours required by Apprenticeship Manitoba. After graduation students only need 100 salon hours. After 1500 hours, level one is complete. Level two apprenticeship requires 1500 hours of practical experience, under a journey person. Once a minimum of 70% is earned on the theory exam, apprentices will gain their red seal.
❝Hairdressers are wonderful breed. You work one-on-one with another human being, and the object is to make them feel so much better, and to look at themselves with a twinkle in their eye.❞

Description
At Sturgeon Heights Collegiate, we have an accredited hairstyling program. If a student successfully completes all 12 credits with a minimum of 70% in each credit, they will be eligible to take the government practical exam at the end of Grade 12. This gives them 1400 hours towards their level 1, and they are required to get an additional 100 hours of in salon experience to complete their level 1 apprenticeship.
After graduation, students can continue to work towards their next 1500 hours to complete level 2. Upon completing their level 2 apprenticeship, they are required to gain at least 70% on their written government exam.
Apprentice’s can apply for a $2000.00 grant once their levels are complete.
